Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Sol Campbell will miss the second leg of Arsenal’s Champions League tie with Bayern Munich.

Arsenal trail 3-1 from the first leg, a defeat which was blamed on their defensive uncertainty in the absence of the England defender.

Wenger was hopeful that Campbell would be fit for the return leg, but the ankle injury he picked up against Manchester United earlier in the month is not responding to treatment.

“Sol’s ankle is still swollen,” Wenger told the Evening Standard.

“I am concerned and I have made up my mind that I will not consider him at all because he will not play in the next weeks.

“I would like him to be here but we have to be positive and we have to deal with it.”
