Inter defender Fabio Cannavaro has conceded the Italian championship to holders Juventus after his side squandered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 at home to Roma.
Leading 3-1 against Roma with seven minutes to go, Inter were on course to remain three points adrift of leaders Juventus, only to concede two late goals to the visitors.
Sunday’s result leaves Inter five points behind Juventus with only seven games of the Serie A season left; a deficit Cannavaro believes to be insurmountable.
“Knowing Juventus as I do, the Scudetto (Italian title) is lost, even if we don’t give up,” Cannavaro told Contro Campo.
“Our mistake was that (at 3-1) we weregoing forward too much when we should have been controlling the game.”
Meanwhile, Inter coach Cuper refused to concede the title race was over.
“Some collapses are inexplicable,” said the Argentinian.
“I don’t know if it’s destiny or bad luck. I know that we must fight to the end, we can’t just forget about the title.
“There are 21 points to play for. We must be ready to take advantage if Juventus slip-up.
“Now wemust look ahead and raise morale. My first task is to stimulate the squad for the (Champions League) match against Valencia. There is still a lot to play for.”
