Juventus coach Fabio Capello has revealed his anger after Lilian Thuram returned from international duty with a thigh injury.

The French defender was already struggling with an injury when he was included in France’s starting line-up against Republic of Ireland.

Thuram’s injury worsened in the Ireland game and, having missed Juventus’ Serie A encounter with Empoli he will also sit out the Champions League pener against Club Brugge.

”The Thuram injury is more serious than at the start of last week,” admitted Capello.

”The fact he played against Ireland didn’t improve things. The injury is more serious than first anticipated.

”I don’t know when he will be back. There are national coaches that respect the players’ willing but if a national coach calls a player for the superior interests of the national team, the player must accept.

”The selector makes the decision. I think about my team and the selector thinks about his national selection.

”Clubs pay players and an injury represents a big loss. Players return or go to their national teams tired, and this doesn’t allow them a good recovery.

”It really is a difficult situation, there are many teams. It would have been right to reduce the number of teams but we increased them.

”There isn’t space for players to have a rest.”
