We wait months for some football action then it all comes at once! It’s the Carling Cup action tonight as Leeds make the trip to Darlington.

Fabio Capello has warned David Beckham he needs to be playing in a top European league in the second half of the season if he wants to make England’s World Cup squad.

The 34-year-old is is currently back at parent club, LA Galaxy, following a successful loan stint at Milan last term.

A return to the San Siro has been mooted at the end of the MLS season, and Capello is adamant that Beckham will need to be playing at a high level to retain any hope of playing in a fourth successive World Cup.

“Beckham knows well that if he doesn’t return to a big European championship in December he’ll have no chance for the World Cup,” Capello told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
