A goalkeeper has been sent off for celebrating saving a penalty. Here's 6 more cases of some over-zealous officials encountering some dim-witted footballers, with predictable consequences.

1) Revan’s Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Sapela pulled off a penalty save against Qabala at the weekend and duly celebrated in style. Cue the referee brandishing a red card.

2) First we head to Russia and possibly the most bizarre, or at least inexplicable of the dismissals. It features Spartak Moscow’s Emmanuel Emenike celebrating a goal against Zenit by tapping his wrist.

3) Staying with Russia, and the case of a striker taking his revenge on his one team’s supporters.

It’s Zenit St. Petersburg’s final home match of the 2013 Russian Premier League season, 31-year-old Russian international Roman Shirokov was brought on to a chorus of boos and jeers. In injury time, Shirokov tapped in from close range in Zenit’s 3-1 win against Volga Nizhny and he celebrated by giving fans behind the goal an “up yours” gesture.

4) From a lower league Italian match which took place a couple of weeks ago. For some reason the forward decides to celebrate his goal by running head first into the dugout.

5) Over to Thailand and a Thai Super League clash between Muangthong United and TOT Sport Club. Muangthong’s Macedonian international Mario Gjurovski was shown a red card after he decided to celebrate his goal by removing his shorts and placing them on his head. Asking for trouble doing that.

6) Fidel Martinez, a 22-year-old Ecuadorian, playing for Mexico’s Tijuana and joined in the celebrations when Dubies Rascos scored against rivals Toluca.

Martinez broke away from the group of celebrating players, raised his arms and fired off an imaginary machine, while his team mate feigned death. In a country with a murder rate as high as Mexico’s, that is never going to do go down well.

7) Austrian centre-back Aleksandar Dragovic scored both goals in FC Basel’s 2-1 win over Servette in the Swiss Super League, though his celebration for the second goal was deemed to be over-aggressive and the 21-year-old was off.
