Holders Real Madrid have been drawn to face Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The draw for the last eight was held in Nyon Switzerland and pitted Vicente del Bosque’s side against the 1999 winners. Earlier in the week, both Del Bosque and United boss Alex Ferguson expressed a preference for meeting each other in the knock-out stages.

The draw saw two Italy-Spain encounters with Serie A leaders Juventus facing Barcelona, while reining Spanish champions Valencia meet Inter in a match that sees Inter coach Hector Cuper return to the club he led to two finals.

Meanwhile Ajax, the least fancied of the remaining eight teams, have been handed a tough task against Carlo Ancelotti’s Milan side.

The draw for the semi-finals was also made. The winners of the Real Madrid-Manchester United tie will face the winners of the match between Juventus and Barcelona, while the winners of the Inter-Valencia match will meet the winners of Ajax’s tie with Milan.
