Group A – Preview

Olympiakos v Liverpool
Liverpool head to Athens looking to extend their lead in Group A against Olympiakos.

The four-time champions of the competition won their opening match against last year’s runners-up Monaco 2-0 and face another stern test against a Dusan Bajevic’s side which held Deportivo La Coruna to a goaless draw in their opening game.

“We must repeat the performance against Deportivo, said Bajevic.

“Meaning we have to be disciplined and run for 90 minutes and play with more imagination.”

Liverpool are likely to field Cisse and Garcia up front, both of whom netted at the weekend against Norwich. Stephen Warnock is also expected to start on the left of midfield deputising for the injured Harry Kewell.

The Olympiakos threat will come from Brazilian strikers Giovanni and former world player of the year Rivaldo.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is quietly confident ahead of the tie.

“Olympiakos are a good team and we have great respect for them,” he said. “But we can win.”
