Chelsea have completed the signing of Russian wing-back Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow.

Zhirkov flew in to London over the weekend to undergo a medical, later stating that it would be ‘inexcusable’ for him to turn down the chance of playing in England.

New manager Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed the move, with the 25-year-old becoming Chelsea’s third signing of the window.

Speaking at his first press conference, Ancelotti said: “Zhirkov, Sturridge – these are Chelsea players.”

Daniel Sturridge joined the Blues from Manchester City last week, while young goalkeeper Ross Turnbull also arrived from Middlesbrough.
