Cristian Chivu is expected to stay with Roma this season after talks between the club and Internazionale broke down.

The player’s agents spoke with Roma officials on Wednesday in an attempt to persuade them to accept Internazionale’s offer of €14million plus forward Victor Obinna, but talks collapsed.

“Cristian Chivu remains here,” Roma sporting director Daniele Prade told the press.

“On Sunday he will start the summer camp with us. He will remain until the end of the season. He will be a free agent next summer.

“With his agents there is a complete breakdown. In this situation Roma missed out on an €18million offer from Real Madrid, he has caused us some big damage.”

Real Madrid and Roma had already agreed the a fee of €18million last week but Chivu refused to move to Spain as he wanted to join Inter.
