Real Sociedad coach Chris Coleman has been forced to issue an embarrassing apology after he lied about his reasons for arriving late to a pre-match press conference last week.
Coleman was 90 minutes late for the media briefing on Friday ahead of the game with Celta Vigo – which ended 1-1.
Coleman originally claimed he had problems with the plumbing at his house, contradicting claims in the local media that he was actually late because of a night-out at a local club.
Now the former Fulham coach has admitted that he was indeed out on the town.
“I was out until late in a place where I should not have been,” he admitted.
“The other day I gave you an excuse, above all to take the pressure off the club.
“I will talk with the president and I have already apologised to the players before the game.
“I have to ask for forgiveness from the fans and everybody connected with the club because there are no excuses. I have given ammunition for people to damage the club. It was a mistake.
“I have been at the club for just five months and it is the first time that something like this has happened.”
