Chris Coleman, who yesterday resigned as coach of Spanish Segunda Liga outfit Real Sociedad, is expected to be unveiled as Kevin Keegan’s assistant at Newcastle.

The news of Coleman’s departure came as a surprise after the former Fulham manager informed club officials that he would be staying on.

Keegan, who has made a shock return to St James Park, is reportedly preparing a move for Coleman.

“We are quitting as coaches of Real Sociedad and we are leaving the posts with much sadness as it is a fantastic club,” said Coleman.

“We signed for three years and we thought that would be enough time to do a good job.

“But things have changed.

“It is clear that there are different points of view over the club and how we should work.”

Coleman oversaw an indifferent period with the club, winning seven, losing seven and drawing four of the 18 games he was in charge.
