Kaiserslautern have confirmed that Ciriaco Sforza will be leaving the Bundesliga club with immediate effect but the Swiss midfielder denied he has agreed to leave.

Kaiserslautern claim that Sforza’s recent criticism of coach Michael Henke had made a working relationship impossible.

But Sforza’s denied that claim in a statement posted on his personal website.

“My contract runs until June 2006 and there is as yet no decision to ‘go our separate ways’,” Sforza said.

“I have not signed a dissolution of contract or negotiated the terms of one.”

Sforza confirmed he had offered advice to Henke.

“The coach and the club see no more basis for a co-operation,” Sforza said. “I regret that very much.”

Sforza was taken off at halftime in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Borussia Dortmund, when Kaiserslautern were losing 3-1.
