Antonio Conte has stepped down as manager of Serie A side Atalanta, after just three months in charge.

The Bergam-based side are in the midst of a terrible run and have slipped to second bottom in the Italian top-flight, with just 13 points from 17 games.

After their 2-0 home defeat against Napoli on Wednesday, supporters protested against the manager outside the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

Conte, a former Juventus captain and Italy international, tried to present his resignation on Wednesday night but it was turned by the club’s board of directors.

However, the 40-year-old confirmed on Thursday that he was leaving the struggling team.
