Hernan Crespo’s two goals in Internazionale’s 2-1 win away to Ajaxhas established him as the club’s single-season record-holder in the European Cup.

Crespo’s goals, after 50 and 52 minutes, took his tally for his first season with Inter to eight.

That is one more than Sandro Mazzola claimed in 1963-64 when Inter won the Champions Cup for the first time by defeating Real Madrid 3-1 in the final in Vienna.

Crespo said: “It’s great to have a record but even better that we are in the second group phase. This game showed what depths of morale and confidence we have. The way we have been playing it doesn’t matter who we draw in the next phase.”
