Liverpool have completed the signing of Peter Crouch from Southampton on Wednesday after the striker passed a medical.

The 24-year-old joins the European champions on a four-year deal for a fee of around £7m.

“I am thrilled to be joining a club as prestigious and successful as Liverpool,” Crouch told the Merseyside club’s website.

“Once I heard of their interest in me it was hard not to think about what it would be like to pull on the famous red shirt and play in front of the Kop.”

Manager Rafael Benitez said he expected the towering striker to be a big success at Anfield.

“I’m delighted we have signed Crouch,” said the Spaniard.

“He is a good player with a lot of good qualities and his arrival will give me more options up front.

“Now we have Le Tallec, Garcia, Baros, Cisse, Morientes and Crouch, so we have more options.”
