Siena have sacked coach Luigi Simoni, following the 0-1 defeat by Parma on Sunday and appointed Luigi De Canio as his replacement.

Siena are currently second from bottom in Serie A and club president, Paolo De Luca, felt a change was required if the club were to avoid relegation .

“We thank Simoni for the job he did, but there were not the conditions to continue this working relationship,” said De Luca.

“I think we were playing well but the results were not good. We think we have more chance of avoiding relegation with De Canio.”

De Canio coached Siena when they were in Serie B. He has travelled widely, coaching at Lucchese and Pescara, Udinese, Napoli, Reggina and Genoa.
