Real Betis Brazilian winger Denilson has been ruled out for the season after undergoin surgery on his knee.

Denilson underwent surgery on his right knee on Wednesday and although theprocedure is understood to have been successful, the length of time to recuperate effectively ends his season.

“In my mind, the season is already over,” the 25-year-old said.

“I was burning myself out and had to stop.”

Denilson underwent a similar operation last summer but believes he came back from injury too quickly.

“Maybe I came back too soon afterthe operation but that was because I felt fine,” he said.

“I don’t regret playing through injury because the team needed me. I realise now it is a serious injury, that I have damaged the meniscus and some cartilage, and I want to make a full and proper recovery. That is the objective.”
