World Cup qualifier Group 2

Denmark will be without defenders Thomas Gaardsoe and Martin Laursen for their world cup-qualifying opener against Ukraine on Saturday, with players missing out due to injury.

Whilst Laursen, of Aston Villa, missed his club’s game against Newcastle with a knee problem, Gaardsoe picked up an ankle injury playing for West Brom against Everton on Saturday, and could be out for up to 3 weeks.

This will come as a blow to coach Morten Olsen, whose side have performed well in recent years, reaching the quarter -finals of both the 2002 World Uup, and Euro 2004.

Ukraine, whose last meeting with the Danes was a 1-0 defeat in 2003, have no injury worries ahead of the clash.
