Bolton striker El-Hadji Diouf will not face charges over an alleged assault on his wife.

Diouf was arrested after reportedly hitting his partner, who called police to their Bolton home.

However, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that Diouf was released without charge on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said: “The 25-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of assault on Sunday 5 November 2006, was released without charge on Tuesday 14 November 2006.”

Diouf has been involved in a series of high-profile incidents since arriving in England. He has appeared in court following two seperate incidents of spitting and, last year, he was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £3,000 after being found guilty of drink driving.
