Gerard Houllier will not pick El-Hadji Diouf for Liverpool’s UEFA Cup clash with Celtic this week.

The Senegal international forward spat at Celtic fans during the 1-1 draw at Celtic Park and was fined a maximum two weeks wages by Liverpool last week. He can expect further punishment from UEFA.

But even if Diouf is not banned, Houllier will omit him from his team for the return leg on Thursday.

‘We’ll have to wait and see what UEFA say first,’ said the Liverpool boss.

‘They will make a decision at some point this week’

‘But, either way, I don’t think I’ll be playing Diouf in this game.’
