Landon Donovan ended his second spell with Bayer Leverkusen and will return to Major League Soccer.

The 24-year-oldis expected to join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday.

Donovan has struggled to settle since returning to Bayer during January’s transfer window.

Despite being under contract with Bayer until 2008, the Bundesliga side have agreed a fee with MLS to release him from his current deal.

“Everything is now signed and sealed,” Bayer chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser confirmed on Wednesday.

“We have released him for the MLS and will receive a fee of €1 million.”

Donovan has since told the American press of his desire to join the LA Galaxy.

“I don’t know if the transfer works out, but I’d love to join Los Angeles Galaxy,” he said.
