Liverpool’s Jerzy Dudek believes injury will rule him out of Poland’s World Cup Group Six decider against England at Old Trafford next Wednesday.

“In my opinion it will be (Celtic goalkeeper) Artur Boruc who starts at Old Trafford,” Dudek told daily Gazeta Wyborcza on Tuesday.

“Liverpool didn’t want to release me after such a serious injury. I promised that I would be reasonable. But if (Polish trainer Pawel) Janas says: ‘Jerzy, you’re number one and you have to play,’ then I won’t refuse.”

Poland lead Group Six with 24 points and will take first place automatically if England fail beat Austria on Saturday.

If England beat Austria, the Poles will need a draw but may also qualify as one of the best-placed group runners-up.
