Controversial Brazilian striker Edmundo has walked out on Urawa Reds after less than three months, officials of the J-League club has confirmed.

After making just two Nabisco Cup appearances for Urawa, the 31-year-old stunned the club’s manager Hans Ooft by stating that he wanted to finish his playing career elsewhere.

“For this to happen right at the start of the season is a pity, but it would have had a negative effect on the team if he had stayed in his present state of mind,” Urawa general manager Takaji Mori said.

Urawa are enduring a terrible time of it at the moment, with last week’s defeat to Kashima being their 11th in succession.
