Arsenal midfielder Edu hopes to complete a move to Valencia by the weekend.

The Brazilian has turned down the chance of extending his Highbury contract, which runs out in the summer, in favour of a move to the Spanish champions.

Edu told Spanish newspaper Diario AS: “I am willing to make every effort for Valencia. I hope this is over in less than 24 or 48 hours.

“I want this to finish as soon as possible, because I do not want to spend the rest of the season without playing a single minute.

Edu has repeatedly been linked with a move to Spain, with Valencia, Real Madrid and Barcelona all rumoured to be interested in signing him.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted recently that he was resigned to losing the Brazilian.

“I thought we made some progress but now my belief is more that he will go to a different club and I would bet on it being Valencia,” said Wenger.

“I’m disappointed. I would have loved him to stay but he is free to choose.”
