Arsenal midfielder Edu is joining Valencia on a five-year deal, according to the Spanish club.

The 26-year-old Brazilian has long been linked with the club and looks set to become one of new manager Quique Sanchez Flores’s first signings.

Valencia said on their website: “President (Juan Bautista) Soler has confirmed the signing of Edu, the Arsenal and Brazil player.

“He will join on 1 July and will play for the team in the next five seasons.”

Edu joined Arsenal in January 2001 from Corinthians after the move was delayed when he was refused admission to the United Kingdom because he held a forged Portuguese passport.

Sanchez Flores, a former Valencia player, replaces Antonio Lopez, who announced after Sunday’s win over Osasuna he would step down as coach.
