Sven Goran Eriksson will in future demand that all players selected for England report for duty, even if their clubs claim they are injured.

The new hard-line policy is seen as a response to Paul Scholes’ apppearance for Manchester United on Tuesday even though themidfielder had pulled out England’s squad to face in Portugal on Saturday through injury.

According to a report in today’s Guardian, the FA’s new approach will will come into force before England’s opening European Championship qualifier against Slovakia in October.

Eriksson spoke to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson after Tuesday’s match but the pair did not discuss Scholes.

Asked whether the pair had clashed over the surprise appearance of Scholes, FA spokesman Paul Newman said: ‘It would be a ding rather than a ding-dong.’
