Former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson could take over as coach at French club Marseille in the New Year.

Eriksson has been linked with several clubs since leaving his England position after the World Cup finals, but press reports said he was being lined up for the job in Marseille.

“It’s true. We are on our way and it should be completed in the New Year,” Eriksson’s right-hand man Tord Grip was quoted by the Sun as saying when asked about the Marseille job.

“In France there is only one team that is really good at the moment and that is Lyon. But Marseille is a football town.”

L’Equipe reported that Eriksson’s name had been connected to an unnamed potential buyer of Marseille and that he would come in as manager if that deal went proceded.
