Real Madrid presidential candidate Arturo Baldasano has claimed that he will appoint Sven-Goran Eriksson as manager if he wins the forthcoming election to run the club.

Eriksson will step down as England coach after the World Cup and he has been linked with a number of high profile positions.

“My team have spoken with Eriksson and he has given a commitment that if I win the election he will come and coach the team,” Baldasano told Radio Marca.

“He’s an important coach with the right kind of characteristics to do well.”

Lawyer and economist Baldasano lost heavily to former president Florentino Perez in the 2004 election.

Former president Lorenzo Sanz says he will bring back Vicente del Bosque as Real Madrid coach if he wins the election.

“You just need to look at the success we had when he was here so it is absurd not to opt for him,” he said.

“We have spoken and he is in agreement that if I win he will return to be coach.”

Del Bosque was coach for three and a half years before being sacked by president Florentino Perez in 2003, having steered Real to two European Cups and two league titles.

The current election, to be held on June 2, was called after Fernando Martin was ousted in April.
