Barcelona could undergo a change of heart and decide to keep Samuel Eto’o at Camp Nou.

Cameroon striker Eto’o looked set to leave Camp Nou after new coach Pep Guardiola admitted that he, Ronaldinho, and Deco, did not feature in his plans.

Ronaldinho and Deco have both left, but Eto’o remains at the club and figured in their two recent friendlies against Hibernian and Dundee United.

Barca president Joan Laporta has admitted he has been impressed by the attitude of Eto’o in training and that he may stay at the club.

“Eto’o is showing total commitment and that part of his character is something we all like to see. He has had a very positive attitude during the pre-season,” Laporta told a news conference.

“At one time we did think the most convenient thing was to change things in order to renew the team, especially in terms of the most important players, but I understand that nothing in this world is set in stone.

“I don’t think the issue with Samuel is irreversible or definitive and we need to look at things carefully…. His recovery both in mental and physical terms will influence the club’s final decision.”

Laporta also went on to praise Guardiola for the impact he has made since replacing Frank Rijkaard earlier in the summer.

“What Guardiola has done is bring some order to things and that is important,” added Laporta. “He has won the respect of the players with his actions.”
