David Moyes has confirmed Everton have accepted a bid from an unnamed club for Steven Pienaar.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave Goodison Park for free in the summer.

Pienaar has reportedly held talks with Chelsea but it was revealed they had broken down. There have been contradictory reports that the South African midfielder was poised to sign a pre-contract with a European club and would remain at Everton until the end of the season.

However, Moyes confirmed: “We have had two offers and one of those offers has been accepted.

“We have allowed his representatives to speak to the other club, but whether it goes through or not I don’t know yet.”

Since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2007, Pienaar has been a consistent performer for Everton and his form last season saw him crowned the club’s player of the year.

Moyes revealed that Pienaar’s decision to leave was probably made some time ago.

He added: “I think the player probably decided that when he turned down his contract six months or a year ago, whenever it was.

“But he has done very well for us on the pitch, so we have no complaints.”
