Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has dismissed reports that striker Luis Fabiano will be leaving the club.

It had been reported that Manchester City were close to bringing the Brazilian international to the Premier League, but del Nido says that any prospective buyer would have to match the club’s buyout clause of €60m.

Fabiano has scored 13 goals in 13 games this season and his form has not gone unnoticed.

“I will try to be as clear as possible,” he told Sevilla’s official website.

“Luis Fabiano has a fixed contract with Sevilla. A week ago we had meetings to discuss this matter, but Sevilla owns 100 per cent of the player.

“There is no possibility that he will abandon Sevilla.

“We are in discussions about his next contract and we have decided a number of years and it only remains for us to discuss his wage.

“In no way will Luis Fabiano leave, only if the club receives an offer of over 60million euros.

“The only person who has the authority to speak on this matter is me, not his representative or the player.”
