According to reports in several newspapers, Liverpool will atttempt to lure Fulham right-back Steve Finnan over the summer as Gerard Houllier’s looks to rebuild his squad.

Finnan has been earmarked as as a transfer target after impressing Houllier with his performavces for Fulham and the Republic of Ireland. The 26-year-old would cost in the region of £4 million.

Houllier is also understood to be eager to in revive is interest in Finnan’s international colleague Damien Duff.The Blackburn winger was a target for Liverpool last summer but the clubs were unable to agree a fee.

To release funds for future signings, the Liverpool manager is hoping Abel Xavier will move to Galatasaray on a permanent basis in the close season. Anotherplayer tipped to be on his way out of Anfield is Markus Babbel although the former Germany international insisted that his future lay at Anfield.

“I have no idea how these rumours have started,” said Babbel.

“I’ve got a three-year contract and have absolutely no plans to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

“All I know is that the club aren’t looking to get rid of me.”
