Fiorentina, playing in Italy’s 4th division, attracted 25,000 for their opening home match of the season a 5-1 win over Castel di Sangro.

The attendance for the Serie C2 game was in contrast to Fiorentina’s last home match in Serie A which saw just 5,000 turn up for the match with Parma as fans protested at the mismanagement of the club.

The club have sold around 15,000 season tickets for the new season, an astonishing figure given their recent troubles.

Evacuo Felice, on loan from Lazio’s youth team and Christian Rigano, who signed from Taranto, both scored twice to send the loyal Fiorentina fans home happy.
