Brazilian team Fluminense have decided to rescind the contract of legendary forward Romario.

Directors decided last night to terminate Romario’s contract, with the intention that it be done in an amicable way.

Flu president David Fischel originally declared that Romario’s future would be decided today, but the directors decided to let him go after last night’s meeting.

Romario’s position within the Rio side had become increasingly untenable following criticism of the club’s manager Alexandre Gama.

Romario made history with Brazil, playing a central role in the 1994 World Cup winning side. He was also a major success in Europe, winning titles with PSV and Barcelona. He was surpassed in goals for the Brazilian national team last
week by Ronaldo, but still stands firm in 3rd place, having scored 55 for the Canarinha.
