Uche Okafor, a former defender who helped Nigeria win the African Cup of Nations in 1994, has been found dead in his Texas home.
Little Elm police Detective Oscar Hinojosa says Okafor’s body was discovered Thursday by his wife, who left work and returned home when she was unable to reach him by phone.
Hinojosa told The Associated Press that police had not disclosed whether his death was murder or a suicide, “we’re just saying it’s a death.” The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office says Okafor’s body will be examined Friday.
Okafor was a member of the Nigeria team at both the 1994 and 1998 World Cups.
