Real Madrid coach Mariano Garcia Remon has given his backing to Michael Owen following the England striker’s match-winning performances in .Madrid’s last two games.

Owen scored the only goal in the Champions League against Dynamo Kiev and then followed up with the winner against Valencia

Asked to compare Owen with Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o, the Real chief backed his own man.

“I like Owen more than Eto’o. He has played from the start for two matches and given us six points. I’d not swap him for Eto’o,” Garcia Remon told Spanish television.

Real remain nine points behind league leaders Barca, but Garcia Remon is confident his team can close the gap.

“Barcelona are playing well but they have had a bit of luck which we were missing at decisive moments,” he said.

“Nine points are nothing – but the gap mustn’t get any bigger.”
