Newcastle have signed Geremi from Chelsea on a free transfer.

The versatile Cameroon international has passed a medical and agreed a three-year deal.

“Geremi has passed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Magpies, and will arrive on a free transfer from Chelsea on a three-year contract once his work permit has been obtained,” confirmed a club spokesman.

The 28-year-old has been at Chelsea since 2003 but spent much of his time at Stamford Bridge warming the bench.

Geremi becomes Newcastle’s fourth signing of the summer, after the earlier captures of Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal.
