Germinal Beerschot have sacked coach Marc Brys and replaced him with Jos Daerden, the Antwerp club have confirmed.

“It was a very difficult decision. But one we had to make,” club chairman Jos Verhaegen said in a statement.

“The disappointing results of recent weeks left us with no choice. We thank Marc for our cup success and wish him the best.”

Beerschot’s 3-0 defeat at Cercle Bruges on Wednesday left them with just four points from seven games was the final straw for Verhaegen.

Daerden was assistant trainer at Racing Genk, while last season he was in charge at relegated Mons-Bergen.
