Premier League strugglers Newcastle face a must-win game tonight when Pompey head to St James’ Park.

Getafe have fired their coach Victor Munoz as the club fights relegation from the Primera Liga.

“The results and the team’s situation have forced the board to take this decision,” they said in a statement.

Munoz, 52, replaced Denmark’s Michael Laudrup at the club in the summer of last year.

His last match in charge was Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Villarreal which came on the back of last week’s 3-2 defeat to local rivals Real Madrid.

“The club finds iteself in a situation … where there is no more room for error,” the club said after Sunday’s defeat.

The club, a finalist in the Spanish Cup in 2007 and 2008, are languishing in 17th position in the league, one point clear of the relegation zone.
