Germany striker Mario Gomez escaped a ban but has been fined €8,000 for insulting Karlsruhe defender Maik Franz.
The 22-year-old Stuttgart striker criticised Franz after the pair clashed during Karlsruhe’s 3-1 defeat in Stuttgart on Saturday.
But he later retracted his remarks and admitted he should not have spoken so harshly about his opponent.
“I accept the punishment, because I made a mistake in my choice of words in an interview immediately after playing. For me the whole thing is now finished,” he told German agency SID.
Gomez launched into a tirade after the final whistle on Saturday when interviewed by German channel Premier.
