Coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves was full of praise for his side after the held Mexico to a 0-0 draw in Hanover.

Although his team were under the cosh for most of the game, Goncalves insisted his side deserved a point.

“We controlled the game,” he said. “The draw is a signal that we have arrived and are building a very good team.

“It was a good performance by us, especially as it came against a very strong Mexican team.”

His counterpart, Mexico coach Ricardo La Volpe, blamed his side’s poor finishing for the 0-0 draw.

“We controlled the ball but when it doesn’t go in, you end up as we did with a draw.

“As far as the next game is concerned, we will wait on the Iran and Portugal outcome before deciding our approach.”

Mexico face Portugal on 21 June in their final match of Group D, requiring a draw to guarantee a place in the knockout stages.
