Reports in Spain suggest that Atletico Madrid are almost certain to land Jesper Gronkjaer from Birmingham during the January transfer window.

The Danish international moved to St Andrews from Chelsea last summer, but is reported to be ready to move again already.

He has been a fixture in Steve Bruce’s side having started all 15 Premiership games for the club this term but has failed to convince Blues supporters of his worth. Gronkjaer himself has admitted he is disappointed with his form at the club.

Spanish radio station Cadena SER insist he is now ready to turn his back on The Premiership and claims Atletico director of sport, Toni Munoz, has convinced the player to head to Spain.

Gronkjaer was a target for both Atletico and Sevilla during the summer, but opted to stay in England following the death of his mother.

Atletico – who are desperate to land a right-sided midfielder – have reportedly persuaded the player to swap The Premiership for La Liga and are now confident of thrashing out a deal with Birmingham for around £1 million.
