Real Mallorca striker Daniel Guiza was a surprise inclusion for Spain for the decisive Euro 2008 qualifiers at home to Sweden and Northern Ireland.

The uncapped 27-year-old comes in for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, who has been struggling with a groin strain.

Guiza is the Primera Liga’s joint second highest scorer with six goals, and top scored for Getafe last season with 17 in all competitions.

“I know Guiza well and we have been following him for some time. I have always had confidence in him and at present he is in extraordinary form,” coach Luis Aragones told a news conference.

“He is the highest Spanish scorer in the league along with Fernando Morientes. They are similar players. We decided on Guiza as Morientes picked up an injury the other day.

“Luis Garcia is still in the reckoning but I wanted more of an out-and-out striker against Sweden.”

Sweden top the group by a point from Spain, who are five clear of third-placed Denmark and fourth-placed Northern Ireland.
