Hearts have announced that head coach Valdas Ivanauskas has left the club by mutual agreement.

The Lithuanian has been absent from the first team for a number of weeks – with sporting director Anatoli Korobochka taking charge – and the SPL club have now confirmed his departure.

Ivanasukas replaced Graham Rix in March 2006 and has now departed Tynecastle himself after requesting to leave – according to the club.

“During his period in charge of the team, Hearts won the Scottish Cup and finished second in the SPL,” chairman Roman Romanov told the club’s official website.

“He has played a key role in the development of the team at a crucial time. Valdas made the request to leave his role as head coach.”

Ivanauskas added he was proud of what he had achieved during his year in charge at Hearts.

“I am very proud to have been Hearts coach, in my career as a young coach, it has been my best and most interesting experience.

“I want to say how proud I am of the team. The team is currently in the process of forming itself and I can see it will have a great future.”
