Internazionale chief Massimo Moratti has confirmed that he is interested in signing German playmaker Michael Ballack.

The Bayern Munich midfielder is in great demand after indicating that he will be leaving Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer. Following approaches from Manchester United and Real Madrid, Inter are the latest club to throw their hat into the ring.

“To replace him [Veron] on the tactical plan we have Pizarro and so we are alright,” said Moratti.

“Anyway Veron is the driving force of the team and so should I have to think of a player with his characteristics I can only point out Ballack.

“He has class, charisma and character.

“Surely, someone keeps telling me that he is different to Veron, but he’s different only for the place on the pitch, for the other they are both the same – absolute champions.

“It doesn’t seem to me he has already agreed with someone.

“Many clubs are following him and we are there too.

“It’s an important investment, Ballack is a player of €5 million a season, on that level anyway this is the expense.”
