Juventus president Andrea Agnelli says Inter are nervous as the Italian football federation (FIGC) gathers fresh evidence on the Calciopoli scandal.

Juve relinquished their Serie A titles of 2005 and 2006 as a result of the scandal, which saw the club accused of attempting to rig games through referee selection. Among other punishments, they were relegated to Serie B, while Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina were also hit with points deductions.

However, there have subsequently been suggestions that Inter – who were handed the 2006 title in Juve’s place – were also involved, with Paolo Bergamo, the official who appointed referees, having indicated that the Nerazzurri should also have been punished.

The FIGC is reopening the investigation as Juve have handed over new wiretapped phone conversations. Juve want Inter stripped of the 2006 title and for it not to be assigned to anyone, as was the case with the 2005 Scudetto.

FIGC president Giancarlo Abete said: “The FIGC lawyers are gathering the transcripts of those phone calls recently submitted to the Naples court as evidence in the Calciopoli trial.

“These will then be sent to the Federal Prosecutor for evaluation and can complete the documentation received recently of 228 CD-ROMs to be transcribed.”

Inter president Massimo Moratti said this week: “I saw the Juventus directors and Abete look pretty happy after their meeting. Evidently they are already on the same page, but I don’t need to ask Abete for anything.”

Agnelli believes Moratti may have reasons to be concerned about the latest investigation.

“Evidently Moratti is nervous,” he said. “As for us, we have absolutely no reason to be nervous or irritable. Do Inter feel the same way? I don’t know.

“I only focus on what happens at Juventus. We are calm. We know what is in the evidence, the Federation also knows, so we have faith waiting for their judgment.

“As far as I am concerned, there is a very relaxed rapport between Inter and Juventus. You know the facts. On the basis of the new wiretaps, Inter also had some phone calls with the officials. Therefore, the Scudetto should not be assigned.”
