Internazionale chief Massimo Moratti has played down the prospect of signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Manchester United winger has been tipped for a move to Spain, but Inter have also been linked with the player after Nerazzurri boss Roberto Mancini praised the Portuguese international on Sunday.
The Serie A leaders will lose Luis Figo in July and, following Mancini’s words, speculation has grown that Ronaldo could emerge as a possible replacement.
However, Moratti admits that persuading Manchester United to part with Ronaldo would be an onerous task.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is really a sensational player, but he represents Man Utd and that means it would be very difficult to sign him,” Moratti told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“And I also don’t think for us that he is an absolute requirement.
“I enjoy the fact that Mancini thinks of this, but I repeat, we must leave him to Manchester.”
