Two-goal hero Filippo Inzaghi was happpy to defelect attention from his own performance and praise his team-mates for their part in Milan’s 2-1 win over Lens at the San Siro.

“Everything was perfect tonight and I am really happy,’ said the striker. ‘But I have to say again that I wouldn’t be able to score the goals I have at the moment without the work of my team-mates – I especially have to thank Kakha Kaladze and Rui Costa for two perfect passes.”

‘The atmosphere in the team is different this season,’ Inzaghi added. ‘The Rivaldo and Alessandro Nesta signings have obviously helped but the whole team are enthusiastic and the crowd can feel that and are joining in.

“It was really important to win tonight. In the first half, Lens were really organised, they were physical and difficult to get through – but we finally managed it,” he added.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti praised the contribution of Rivaldo who wa making his first full apppearance for the club.

“I am really happy with Rivaldo’s performance – he is adapting to the team and he was really important for us, especially when we were leading,” said Ancelotti.

Lens coach Joel Muller, meanwhile, said: “We weren’t afraid of Milan. But we knew that they were a strong side and they were playing an attacking lineup. We were well organised, especially in the first half, but to concede two goals inside four minutes just destroyed all our plans.”

“Organisation is obviously important in a game, but talent is what wins you games and Inzaghi looked unstoppable today,” he said.
