Iranian state television says the country’s new coach has resigned just two weeks after being appointed to the post.
The Tuesday report quoted the head of Iran’s soccer federation, Ali Kafashian, as saying Mohammed Mayely-Kohan resigned after disputes with supporters affected the national team.
On Sunday, Mayely-Kohan called the supporters of Esteqlal “hooligans” and criticized the club’s manager for his alleged incompetence.
His resignation comes with Iran fourth in the five-team Group B of Asian World Cup qualifiers with six points from five games.
