The Scudetto will be decided on the last day of the season after Inter again dropped points this weekend.

Facing Siena at home, Internazionale would have been expected to win relatively comfortably. They took the lead twice in the match – first, through France captain Patrick Vieira, then through talented Italian youngster Balotelli – but were pegged back by goals from Maccarone and Kharja. With goals from Christian Panucci and Daniele De Rossi, Roma eased to a 2-1 home win over Atalanta. With just one game left to play, Inter lead at the top by a solitary point. In next week’s decisive final round, Inter face a potentially difficult trip to relegation-threatened Parma, while Roma travel to Catania.

Milan’s recent run of form came to an abrupt end as they were comprehensively beaten 3-1 at Napoli. Fiorentina beat Parma by the same scoreline, putting themselves in pole position to secure fourth place, two points ahead of Milan with just one game left. Sampdoria recorded an impressive 2-0 win away at Palermo, but are now mathematically incapable of reaching fourth place, as are Udinese, who were beaten 2-0 at home by Cagliari.

At the bottom, second half goals from Barreto and Amoruso earned Reggina a massive win over Empoli, which guarantees them top-flight football next season. Livorno’s relegation was confirmed after a 1-0 home defeat by Torino. They will be joined by two from Catania, Parma and Empoli.
